  • Works on the Brookings, SD campus.

  • Typical hours are Monday-Friday and b e available to provide emergency or weather-related support outside of typical schedule.  

  • The Facilities Department supports operations at Daktronics and is responsible for facility planning, construction, maintenance, material handling, motor pool, general machine, and tool repair.

  • Our Building and Grounds/Custodial Staff is responsible for six Daktronics buildings and exterior grounds on the Brookings campus.   

    People Development, Hiring and Staffing:  

  • Plan and have daily interactions with all direct reports to help them achieve and exceed our High Standard of Performance by setting clear and specific expectations and reinforcing desired behaviors.   

  • Provide regular and timely feedback on performance to direct reports.  

  • Perform timely and objective performance evaluations as defined by our Performance Development Cycle standard.  

  • Create and facilitate individual development plans for each direct report to develop their skills using a Skills Matrix, Job Instructions, and other established training resources.  

  • Facilitate and promote movement both within and outside the home factory to foster our commitment to stable employment.  

  • Participate as part of a collaborative interview team and select individuals who demonstrate the potential to meet and exceed our High Standard of Performance.  

  • Work with Manager and HR on staffing levels to meet current and anticipated demand while considering improvements that lead to further productivity gains.   

    Running the Business:  

  • Perform daily safety audits to ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures, address hazards that arise through problem solving, and participate in monthly safety meetings and safety audits in order to provide a safe work environment.  

  • Create production plans with Production Team/Line Leads for required work, including: staffing levels and assignments, hourly and daily goals in order to effectively meet customer demand.  

  • Learn and maintain stable work processes by occasionally performing each job and regularly observing and auditing each process.  

  • Regularly perform leader standard work tasks as part of our Lean Management System, including: Lead and participate in tier meetings, monitor production using visual controls, auditing processes to verify standards are followed and cycle times are met, and ensure product is built to meet quality specifications.  

  • Be available, respond swiftly to escalation, and provide direction and/or action to resolve or escalate further for help in order to effectively support production operations.  

  • Make decisions based on internal and external customer need or value as well as overall cost impact to the company.  

  • Perform value adding work as needed to meet customer demand.   

  • Assemble/tear down furniture systems, maintain and assist troubleshooting and repairs of HVAC, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems. Work with subcontractor on scheduling of service and repairs and communicate information critical to division at a high level.

  • Maintain building grounds to include snow removal and the upkeep of the grounds to include subcontractors for services required to accomplish the above tasks on the Brookings campus. Knowledge and experience of equipment operation to support the facility is preferred.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (active pursuit of a bachelor’s degree may be considered, depending on prior experience). Degrees in Business, Psychology, Sociology, Engineering, or similar fields preferred.   

  • Supervision experience preferred. Demonstrated leadership ability required.     

  • Experience in a technical role preferred. 

  • Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite, willing to learn INFOR, Glovia, and AutoCAD.

  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.   

  • Physical Requirements include the ability to:   

  • Work in an environment with these types of smells: paint, solvent, and solder.   

  • Frequently lift 35 lbs. Occasionally to frequently lift 45 lbs., in some work areas.   

  • Stand for the full shift with planned breaks. The duration of standing between breaks varies from 2-3 ½ hours depending on work area.   

  • Work from heights, including working from ladders and platforms.   

  • Reach in all directions (up, down, side-to-side, and diagonal reaching), including some awkward reaching to insert components in difficult to reach sections of the product.   

  • Maintain steady hand/eye coordination.   

  • Identify wire and paint colors.   

  • Read fine print.  

  • Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver's license and good driving record. Motor vehicle records will be checked.   

  • Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgement.
