Bus Driver

Summary Purpose for the Position:

Provide safe transportation to assigned children in accordance with the local, state, and federal transportation regulations.

Requirements (Education, Experience, Certification, Knowledge, Skill):

High School Diploma or GED, Commercial Driving License (class A or B), with P & S endorsement.

School Bus Driver Certificate of Training and six (6) months experience driving a bus

Effective communication skills including verbal, reading and writing.

Knowledge of the ECMHSP, Federal, State transportation regulations and requirements, as well as the Head Start Transportation Regulations.

Must have current physical exam, mantoux tuberculosis screening and clearances.

Must submit to random drug/alcohol testing.

Position Responsibilities:

Assisting children with seat belts and ensuring that seat belts are fastened at all times when vehicle is in motion.

Management of bus environment (including rider communication) during transport, ensuring that bus rules are followed and that all children are seated with arms, legs, and heads inside windows.

All required forms and documentation must be completed in a timely manner.

Notify immediately the supervisor of any accidents/incidents relating to children, parents, or staff.

Assists in making decisions pertaining to transportation procedures and policies of the center.

Report immediately to supervisor and/or Transportation Manager, any traffic violation or accident.

Complete an ECMHSP Accident/Incident Report for any accident.

Report immediately to supervisor any case of suspected child abuse or neglect per State regulations.

Complete Seating Chart portion of the Transportation Attendance/Seating Chart Form.

Ensure that Bus Monitors are completing the Transportation Attendance section of the Transportation Attendance/Seating Chart Form on a daily basis as defined in the Bus Monitor Job Description.

Ensure that each vehicle has a maintenance file in the vehicle at all times (maintained in a notebook in document protectors).

Complete all other paperwork as defined in the Transportation Manual.

Working Conditions/Environment:

Driving a bus or mini-van used to transport young children.

Must be able to work split shift and flexible hours.

Must be able to travel into rural areas.

Must be able to work with cleaning products such as bleach and disinfectants.

Moderate exposure to disease agents.

This includes outdoor work, extent to which driving/travel in routinely required, lifting, prolonged repetitive motion, and exposure to individuals at a high risk of being infected with serious illness.

Transportation Requirement:

Position does not requires automobile, driver’s license and insurance.
