Job Summary

The candidate for this role will work alongside the HPCC Systems platform team in an agile development environment and apply technical, analytical, and communication skills towards producing and maintaining high quality open source HPCC platform releases by testing, documenting, and building the platform.sys

The HPCC Systems platform is our open source big data engine used to process various big data solutions at RELX and is available for anyone looking to solve big data problems. The position is a QA / Tech Support / Documentation position and requires an understanding of the development lifecycle process as well as knowledge of Linux.

The candidate will be responsible for writing complete platform test scripts, investigating automated testing, writing applications to assist in the complete platform testing process, troubleshooting, and reproducing user problems. In addition to testing, the candidate will be responsible for building the platform, implementing portal updates, and reporting status updates to the community.

This position requires excellent communication skills since the candidate must interact with QA, Operations, various development teams, and the open source community. You will be required to have a knowledge of various current Linux distros and be able to install the operating systems on various team development boxes.

In addition, the position will require the ability to assist the HPCC technical documentation team in keeping our documentation accurate and up-to-date.

Experience (US only) and Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field

  • 3 years of Software Engineering Experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate, analyze, document, and fix reported issues

  • Platform builds

  • Use GIT repository and Jira issue tracker

  • Improve the thoroughness of the testing process

  • Write complete test scripts

  • Successfully implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews

  • Resolve complex technical issues as necessary

  • Assist in training users in the use of various HPCC Systems tools

  • Interact with various groups

  • Install and troubleshoot various Linux operations systems

  • Work with users and developers to ensure that the project deliverables meet customer expectations

  • All other duties as assigned

Technical Skills

  • Linux scripting and basic understanding of Linux OS

  • Programming experience in one or more of the following : Perl / Python / Java / C++ Experience writing test scripts

  • Must be passionate about software development

  • Strong understanding of troubleshooting and verifying user’s issues

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to interface competently with team members as well as technical & non-technical users

  • Ability to work well with internal and external technology resources

  • Ability to write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of complex system components

  • Ability to install and learn 3 rd party software

Helpful / Preferred

  • Experience with automated unit testing

  • Knowledge of ELK, Ganglia, and other monitoring tools

  • Knowledge of Selenium, QTP, or other test tools
