The Program Associate will be an integral member of the Office of Entrepreneurship & Innovation Partnerships (E&IP) responsible for outreach and engagement of external industry stakeholders to support technology commercialization. E&IP oversees intellectual property management and commercialization of university R&D-based inventions, including through a suite of programs supporting industry partnerships, customer discovery, technology development, and entrepreneurship training. We're looking for a highly motivated individual with strong communication skills to support the E&IP team in outreach and promotion efforts to drive industry engagement, timely feedback, partnerships, and sponsored projects to support use-inspired R&D efforts on campus, the development of university inventions, and the growth of E&IP innovation programs.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with the technology transfer unit of E&IP to become familiarized with the university technology and invention portfolio, as well as to develop working relationships with respective faculty, student, and staff inventors.

  • Assist with evaluations of new technology disclosures with a focus on marketability, determination of specific use cases, and identification of industry parties representing potential partners, licensees, or sponsors for the development and commercialization of the respective technologies.

  • Prepare marketing materials and undertake campaigns to present inventions, software, and creative works to potential company licensees.

  • Engage relevant industry stakeholders, including through customer discovery interviews and technical calls with respective university inventor groups, to gather relevant industry-informed feedback regarding university inventions, technologies, and R&D efforts.

  • Support startup outreach and engagement for E&IP programs, including recruitment for programs or as potential R&D partners for university R&D groups.

  • Build relationships with industry that can be activated in vetting technologies, showcasing campus scientific and engineering expertise, specialized testing and characterization services, and pursuing licensing, joint development, and sponsored research opportunities.

  • Connect startups, larger industry partners, and university research groups as appropriate for joint projects.

  • Lead industry outreach and engagement efforts related to building E&IP private-sector partnerships, including by participating in relevant internal and external events, including conferences and trade shows.

  • Become familiar with the full roster of Binghamton University, E&IP, and relevant partner organization programs and resources to engage, vet, support, and direct companies engaging with E&IP.

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in STEM degree with 2+ years of relevant industry, technology transfer, or high-tech startup experience.

  • Must possess technical expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (G-suite).

  • Proficiency with online video conferencing platforms.

  • Must be highly motivated and detailed oriented with the flexibility to multi-task.

  • Must be able to collaborate and communicate with a diverse group of individuals including faculty, staff, senior administrators, and external private-sector stakeholders including startup companies and industry partners.

  • Must possess strong oral/written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced STEM degree (MS or PhD)

  • Experience with customer discovery and/or the I-Corps program.

    Additional Information:

Salary: $70,000 - $80,000 Annually. Note: This is for a one year appointment renewable based on successful performance and availability of funding.
