The Thermal Engineer will join a team performing system related analysis in support of the development of aircraft subsystems as well as the integration of aircraft avionics and the installation of various aircraft hardware. Analysis includes, but not limited to...compartment temperature assessments as influenced by structural heat transfer and compartment heat sources.

Task may include:

  • Modeling fluid systems to assess fluid velocities and heat transfer coefficients over complex geometries

  • Level test planning, execution support, verification, data processing, and troubleshooting.

  • System level evaluations to verify requirements and ensure airworthiness criteria are met.

  • Attend internal program, customer and/or supplier technical exchange meetings and/or formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.

Basic Qualifications Principal Thermal Analysis:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 5 years of engineering e xperience, OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline AND 3 years of engineering experience, OR PhD in STEM discipline AND 0 years or engineering experience.

  • Must have professional experience in thermal analysis related to the development and integration of equipment on platforms, including requirements definition and verification.

  • T his position is contingent upon the ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret Clearance, and Contract Award.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 9 years of engineering e xperience, OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline AND 7 years of engineering experience, OR PhD in STEM discipline AND 4 years or engineering experience.

  • Must have professional experience in thermal analysis related to the development and integration of equipment on platforms, including requirements definition and verification.

  • T his position is contingent upon the ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret Clearance, and Contract Award.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with focus on thermodynamic, fluid mechanic and/or heat transfer disciplines.

  • Experience with aircraft subsystem development, with requirements definition, specification development, component analysis, procurement, source selection, integration and test and verification for advance aircraft.

  • Experience performing thermodynamic and/or heat transfer analysis related to military/commercial aircraft and subsystems.

  • Experience modeling in Thermal Desktop and/or other thermal based nodal simulation type programs (Ex Sinda/Fluient, ANSI ICEPAK)

  • Experience with the military airworthiness certification process using MIL-HDBK-516.

  • Experience interpreting component detail drawings, specifications, installation drawings, and test procedures.

  • Experience in supporting pursuits and proposals, including generating, reviewing, and approving technical proposals and BOEs.

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership related to integrated product teams, including supplier and customer (internal and external) relations.

Salary Range: $97,500 - $146,300

Salary Range 2: $120,900 - $181,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
