Today, we are a leading not-for-profit agency employing 1200+ staff and providing over 70 program sites in Nassau and Suffolk. ACLD’s Vocational Developer supports adults diagnosed with intellectual/developmental disabilities in support in the intensive and follow-along phases of Supported Employment He/She establishes and maintains working relationships with employers, industry organizations, and public agencies to source job openings and secure employment and vocational training opportunities for each person supported on their caseload.

In this position, you will:

  • Conduct initial intake meetings with the job seeker/family/residential provider to determine interests, skills, and concerns about employment.

  • Conduct or review observational and/or situational assessments

  • Canvas potential employers utilizing classified ads, cold calls, networks, and marketing tools

  • Develop resumes for program participants

  • Provide on-site job coaching for designated caseload

  • Coordinate and conduct mock application completions and interviews in preparation for all upcoming job interviews. While also counseling on job readiness

  • Arrange interviews and accompany job seekers to these interviews

  • Maintain follow-up with employers after the interview. Record all contacts made to each employer

  • Responsible for all job placement activities including notification of the family, residence, ACCES-VR counselor and coordinator in preparing file for new employee

  • Conduct Vocational Assessments to identify strengths for employment goals

  • Provide overall assistance as assigned

    We require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation, psychology, education or related field required.

  • One year job development or business experience preferred

  • Clean, valid NYS Driver’s License
