UPMC Licensed Practical Nurse, OP (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Spine Health) in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania

The Program for Spine Health with UPMC Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is hiring a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse, OP to join their team in Bethel Park, PA! This is a Monday through Friday daylight position with the hours of 8am to 4:30pm. No evenings, weekends, or holidays required. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, demonstrate care and concern for patients and families, be an engaged listener.

This position supports the Program for Spine Health through daily contact with patients and providers. This position will help with clinic operations such as patient flow, screening/triaging referrals, responding to patient questions, following up on patient education, cleaning exam rooms, accompany patients to exam rooms, and stocking supplies. This position will also have front office responsibilities such as answering phones, verification of insurance, obtaining appropriate imaging reports, and scheduling patient visits with multiple disciplines.

The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) outpatient department has unique specialized offices called the UPMC Program for Spine Health (PSH). This team has a collaborative culture that fosters caring for patients and each other.

The care team includes three nurses, PMR physicians and physician assistant (PA), physical therapists (PT), dietitian, pain psychologist, health coach, medical assistant, and scheduling coordinator. Strategies are implemented based on best practices and innovation fostering coordinated care with our patients.

Purpose:

Provides professional nursing care to office patients under supervision of patient care providers.

Responsibilities:

  • Draw blood.

  • Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).

  • Administer medications including oral, SQ, IM and IV drip.

  • Assist physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures and treatments.

  • Assess patient's general condition and take vital signs and weight.

  • Comply with all policies and procedures.

  • Perform IV therapy under direction of Registered Nurse.

  • Document all activities/interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, etc., in the medical record.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.

  • Promote wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.

Graduate of an approved LPN school of nursing. One year clinical experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • Act 34 *Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
