Amazon Senior Software Development Engineer - Redshift Data Management, Amazon Redshift in Berlin, Germany

It enables our customers to dramatically increase their performance when analyzing data sets of virtually any size using the same SQL-based business intelligence tools they use today.

Amazon Redshift is the fastest and most widely used cloud data warehouse, yet we are constantly improving our service based on our customers’ needs across all areas of the service. This job opportunity is for the team that owns the data management layer of Amazon Redshift which spans from memory, to local storage, to cloud object storage (Amazon S3) and encompasses all the data life cycle operations (i.e., commit, caching, prefetching, snapshot/restore, replication, and disaster-recovery). In this role, you will have responsibility for:

  • Translating functional and technical requirements into detailed architecture and design

  • Coding and testing complex system components

  • Participating in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards

  • Working with other teams to deliver and operate large scale, distributed services in the cloud

  • Overall system architecture, scalability, reliability, and performance

  • Mentoring other engineers, defining our challenging technical culture, and helping to build a fast-growing team

Utility Computing (UC)

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS. Within AWS UC, Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) roles engage with AWS customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

  • Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

  • Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

  • Experience in system level programming

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field

  • 5yrs+ experience in professional software development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD degree in Computer Science

  • Experience with implementing database internals or other storage systems
