VMware MTS – CPIO Engineering in Beijing, China

The CPIO Beijing Team is part of VMware global R&D organization and is responsible for VMware core product R&D for hardware partners and focusing on hardware technology enablement in the storage, networking and server domains. The team owns the R&D work for major storage and networking drivers for vSphere ESX (VMware flagship product). We are seeking IO technology development engineers with hands-on software skills developing vSphere storage/networking drivers, I/O stacks and protocols, I/O management software, and systems software. As a senior engineer you will have direct exposure to core VMware technology and products, work closely with a strong engineering team, and collaborate and consult with VMware storage partners to jointly develop solutions that enable VMware and its partner ecosystem to effectively address challenges and tap into opportunities presented in a Software-Defined Data-Center (SDDC) environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop solution or software in storage, networking, and server domains for enabling hardware-partner technologies in VMware next generation virtualization and cloud products

  • Bring value-add to VMware products by removing technology gap and challenges identified via collaboration with partners and OEMs

  • Provide architecture-level guidance and advanced development consultation for partner custom projects to enable them to become self-sufficient in long-term

  • Collaborate with domain engineering teams and leverage their expertise to accelerate and scale the technology enablement work for global and regional partners

  • Work with multiple groups/engineers across sites toward accomplishing work as one team

  • Create and deliver high quality documentation of APIs and development kits, and sample code to partners for efficient self-enablement

Requirements

  • A passion for making and delivering well-architected enterprise-class virtualization products for Software-Defined Data-Center (SDDC)

  • Majoring in Computer Science or related is required

  • Linux/Unix and Windows environments and OS knowledge

  • Working knowledge and hands-on coding experience in one or more of the following programming: C/C++, Java, Shell script

  • Understanding of PC peripherals (storage, USB, etc)

  • Good troubleshooting and debugging skills to find the root cause

  • Excellent written and verbal English communications and organization skills

  • Knowledge of software life-cycle is a plus

  • Must be effective in working both as individual contributor independently on delivering projects and in a team setting when engaging with joint project with other teams and partners

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Solid skills in writing high-quality, well-designed and well-documented code
