Job Overview

The Registrar maintains department specific registries and databases (e.g cancer registry, or trauma registry). The Registrar collects, enters, analyzes and reports database information. The Trauma Registrar is a trained professional who collects and maintains data related to patients who have been treated for traumatic injuries. They are responsible for maintaining accurate and complete records of all trauma patients, which can be used for the purposes of research, quality improvement, injury prevention, and national benchmarking. Trauma Registrars further validate and interpret the data per American College of Surgeons and the State of Colorado guidelines. Trauma registrars are the trauma center's data experts and carefully maintain the registry as required per state and national standards. The trauma registrar requires extensive knowledge of ICD-10 coding as it relates to diagnoses and procedure coding, as well as AIS Coding. They utilize the electronic health record (EHR) and interface with a trauma registry software with guidance of data elements defined by our governing bodies to complete total patient chart abstraction. In addition to abstract total patient care data, the Trauma Registrar is responsible for validating patient data, completing continuing education annually, and collaborating with emergency medical services and referring hospitals for completion of continuity of care.

Qualifications

EDUCATION - High School Diploma or equivalent. EXPERIENCE - Two years of medical coding or relevant experience. We're seeking experienced trauma registrars with ICD10/AIS coding experience for an 100% remote position, CSTR/CAISS certifications preferred. EQUIVALENCY - An Associate or higher degree, in a related field, may substitute for the experience requirements on a year for year basis. Preferred: bachelors in healthcare field o information management/analytics Preferred: background or certification in medical terminology or anatomy and physiology
