Job Overview

The Medical Interpreter, Jr. is responsible for performing entry level interpretation and translation work while receiving training in the related principles, methods and techniques.The junior interpreter will be under the guidance and mentorship of a Medical Interpreter Sr. or department leadership.

Qualifications

EDUCATION - High School Diploma or Equivalent EXPERIENCE - Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English (spoken and written) CERTIFICATION(S) - Bridging the Gap Interpreter certification or equivalent will be required within the first six months of employment or completion of a program certificate in Translation & Interpretation within 12 months.

Responsibilities

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE No direct patient-care. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Develops skills for interpretation in the health field including behavioral skills, analyzing communication skills, transferring messages effectively, use of body language. Perform written translations, perform consecutive, simultaneous and sight interpretation. Interprets over-the-phone, via video, or in-person. Develops use of medical terminology by specialty. Receives training on the hospital's electronic medical record system to enter documentation on appointments, access patient medical records, provide statistics and other duties specific to the department. Assists patients and families in navigating through the hospital and its resources.
