Position Purpose:

Shape the Future of Order Management at Home Depot with Data Science & Analytics

Are you a passionate data scientist eager to tackle complex challenges and drive business impact? We're seeking a Sr. Data Scientist to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in developing advanced data science and analytics order management capabilities. You'll lead high-impact projects, collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, and develop data-enabled solutions that optimize inventory, drive confidence in order sourcing and fulfillment, and enhance Pro customer experiences. In this role, you will leverage state-of-the-art data science and machine learning techniques to develop robust optimization, risk propensity, and predictive models for seamless on-time and complete order fulfillment across our nationwide distribution network.

Lead Data Science Initiatives:

  • Provide input to future staffing needs and participating in the recruiting and hiring process

  • Mentor, manage, and guide junior data scientists as the team expands

  • Collaborate with project/product managers to define data science projects, scope requirements, align success metrics, and set timelines

  • Identify and prioritize business opportunities where data science can create competitive advantages

  • Conceptualize, design, and build industry-leading data science solutions for complex project order management and execution

Data Analysis & Modeling:

  • Deep dive into order management data, including inventory, sourcing, fulfillment, delivery, and customer behavior

  • Develop, implement, and enhance machine learning models for automated and scaled inventory optimization, lead time prediction, risk scoring, personalization, and more

  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies, translating insights into actionable recommendations that inform decision making

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Present data-driven insights and recommendations to senior leadership and business partners

  • Effectively communicate the benefits, importance, and impact of proposed and/or developed data-enabled solutions to diverse stakeholders

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., business, strategy, engineering, product) to ensure alignment and successful project execution

Key Responsibilities:

  • 40% -Design and develop algorithms and models to improve search and personalization; Establish scalable, efficient processes for large scale data analysis, model development and model implementation.

  • 20% -Present findings in easily understood ways and focuses on how data analytics fits into the bigger picture.

  • 20% -Communicate with product management, IT, and other business teams on problem definition and writing requirement documents for efficient model building and deployment.

  • 10% -Mentor and develop the technical and business skills of Data Scientists.

  • 10% -Define best practices and articulate a clear vision for how data analyses and model productionalization should be done.

Travel Requirements:

  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Physical Requirements:

  • Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.

  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Math, Statistics, etc.)

  • 6+ years of experience in business intelligence and analytics

  • Expertise in Prescriptive Modeling, ideally relevant to order management (e.g., inventory optimization, lead time forecasting, personalization, advanced order clustering, issue and risk scoring via gradient boosting, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Power Point

  • Proficient in a modern scripting language (preferably Python)

  • Proficient running queries against data (preferably with Google BigQuery or SQL)

  • Proficient with data visualization software (preferably Tableau)

  • Mastery utilizing statistical techniques to identify key insights that help solve business problems

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a master's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
