About the role and what you will be doing:

This position is part of Ensono’s Mainframe Application and Data Modernization Consulting Practice. The primary service offered involves the refactor of applications and data from outdated programming languages and models to contemporary languages and structures. This includes, but is not limited to, converting COBOL to Java or C#, and migrating databases like VSAM, Datacom DB IDMS, etc. to modern platforms such as AWS RDS, Aurora, Azure SQL, or IBM DB2.

In this role, you will develop strategies to modernize mainframe applications and data, whether they remain on the mainframe or move to the cloud or a hybrid IT environment. You will have the chance to impact clients of various sizes, guiding them through their journey to a modern cloud-connected mainframe or to public and private cloud infrastructures.

As a Pre-Sales Solution Consultant specializing in Mainframe Application and Data Modernization at Ensono, your job will be to engage with potential and current clients. You’ll support their mainframe modernization initiatives, helping to define strategic objectives, transformation plans, potential solutions, and project timelines.

This role is a technical presales solution consultant role in that you will directly support Ensono’s quota carrying sales force. You’ll work directly with the sales staff, leading the solution development throughout the sales lifecycle of Mainframe Application and Data Modernization projects. Your responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to, the duties outlined below.

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Qualify Client Opportunities :

  2. Collaborate with sales to assess if client opportunities align with Ensono’s services.

  3. Solution Design and Presentation :

  4. Present Ensono Mainframe Modernization Service

  5. Help develop / customize for the clients’ mainframe modernization needs.

  6. Create proof of concepts (POCs) to demonstrate solution benefits.

  7. Present proposals to clients in a value-based manner, addressing questions and objections.

  8. Cost Estimation and Contractual Descriptions :

  9. Generate cost/pricing using Ensono’s MF Modernization Estimating Model.

  10. Create contractual service descriptions using Ensono templates and secure internal approvals.

  11. Generate statement of work (SOW) documents or RFP responses.

  12. Sales Coordination and Execution :

  13. Collaborate with sales to create and execute a sales close plan.

  14. Project Handoff :

  15. After project sale, conduct a smooth handoff to Ensono’s Project Management team for kickoff and execution.

What You Will Need:

  1. Mainframe Modernization Services Experience : More than 5 years of experience in services or consulting for mainframe modernization, with familiarity with providers such as BlueAge, TSRI, Modern Systems, Astadia, Asysco etc.

  2. Solution Validation : Ability to validate the overall solution with the client and project team to ensure alignment with business requirements.

  3. Pre-Sales Technical Experience : Previous experience in a technical pre-sale’ role, with the ability to engage with clients during pre-sales activities to address their requirements.

  4. Communication and Presentation Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create client-facing presentations and handle high-pressure situations.

  5. Leadership and Influence : Outstanding skills in managing and influencing people, providing technical leadership, and ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of modernization solutions.

  6. Relevant Education and Certifications : A Computer Science degree or relevant experience, along with cloud certifications or similar cloud expertise.

Technology skills you will need OR need to learn for the role:

  • IBM Mainframe Expertise : Knowledge of Z/OS, TSO, VSAM, DB2, CICS, JCL, and other IBM mainframe systems.

  • Diverse Programming Skills : Proficiency in Java, COBOL, PL/I, C#, SQL, and other mainframe and modern languages.

  • Modernization Tooling : Experience with mainframe modernization tools and strategies, including refactoring and rehosting.

  • Database and File System Acumen : Familiarity with DB2, IMS, VSAM, IDMS, and other mainframe databases and file systems.

  • Development Environment Proficiency : Ability to use TSO/ISPF, Eclipse, Visual Studio, and other development environments.

  • Cloud Platform Certification : Certified expertise in cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or GCP.

  • Methodological Knowledge : Understanding of Agile, SDLC, and DevOps methodologies.

  • Communication and Strategy : Strong communication skills and proficiency in modernization strategies such as containerization, cloud integration, and API enablement.
