General Electric Manufacturing Engineer / Specialist in Asheville, North Carolina

Role Summary:

GE Aviation’s Technical Talent Development Program focuses on developing engineering skills required to support and advance manufacturing processes across the Supply Chain. Program members work in manufacturing engineering assignments to gain experience through a mix of on-the-job training and classroom education to provide a foundation of functional and leadership skills. Two, 18-month rotations will provide opportunities for exposure to various technical disciplines and responsibilities.

Essential Responsibilities:

As a manufacturing engineer / specialist in this program, specific responsibilities will vary based on location and may include the following:

  • Utilize CAD software to support tool and fixture design for various manufacturing processes

  • Utilize CAM software to edit existing CNC machine programs and to create new programs for new product introduction support

  • Apply skills in GD&T and blueprint reading to support component and assembly process planning

  • Work in cross-functional teams to support and lead process improvements to reduce manufacturing costs, increase productivity, and improve part quality

  • Collect and interpret data from manufacturing processes to identify and support process improvement activities

  • Support engine assembly and test sites in manufacturing processes such as rotor stack, balance, torque, and grind

  • Support and develop conventional machining processes such as Turning, Milling, Grinding, and Broaching.

  • Support and develop non-conventional machining processes such as Electric Discharge (EDM), Laser, Electro-chemical (ECM), and Abrasive Flow (AFM)

  • Support and develop welding & joining processes such as Electron Beam, Laser, Gas Tungsten Arc, and Brazing

  • Learn and apply Lean / Six Sigma tools to identify process waste and to support decision making processes

  • Implement robotic and automation projects in shop floor environments to reduce human risk factors

  • Develop software and digital solutions to assist manufacturing and assembly solutions Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Completion (or nearing completion, to be completed before time of employment) of a full time and accredited 2 year or 4 year degreed program in one of the following (or related):

  • Mechanical Engineering Technology

  • Electrical Engineering Technology

  • Manufacturing Engineering Technology

  • Aviation Engineering Technology

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA without rounding OR a minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing related role Desired Characteristics:

  • Familiarity with machine tool operations (manual and / or CNC)

  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft products

  • Comfortable working in a shop floor environment around various machine tools and equipment

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a team
