WLOS/WMYA is seeking an experienced, hands-on Assistant News Director with strong leadership and investigative skills. We are looking for someone who loves to dig deeper and uncover the truth. This is a vital role in our newsroom that will oversee our 6pm and 11pm newscasts, as well as head up or four person investigative team.
Manage the station's news operations, establishing goals and directing the staff that produces 30+ hours of local news weekly
Work closely with News Director to establish news content, philosophy, and direction
Review daily newscasts to ensure quality control and brand compliancy, and subsequently provide feedback to all news staff
Assist the News Director with recruiting and hiring for news personnel
Work closely with our investigative and advocacy brands to grow and strengthen a key piece of our newsroom strategy
Help develop our image on multiple platforms
Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws
Must have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts on two stations
Must have a proven track record of success in building a winning news organization
A degree in journalism, broadcast media, or related field is required
A minimum of five years' of experience in a news management role is required
