DOG TRAINER
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Shag Bark Pet Retreat & Spa has an opening in our Training department for an enthusiastic, experienced, professional "positive" dog trainer to conduct group classes, private lessons, seminars and lodge & learn programs. Other responsibilities would include continually breathing new life into the curriculums, integrating the training "mentality" into the other departments and public relation and marketing activities. Competitive starting wage commensurate with a candidates experience and qualifications.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Must have excellent public speaking skills, understand the different ways people learn and be able to adapt information delivery techniques to clearly communicate to all in an audience. Ability to be productive as a team or operate independently.
Must have a firm theoretical and practical knowledge of Ethology and Learning Theories of Psychology. Understand the messages communicated through canine body language.Knowledge in training a variety of canine curriculums is essential: puppy, basic and advanced manners, agility, behavioral issues, aggression, scent work, fun behaviors……we could go on and on but the more the better and most of all a desire to grow your skills from where ever they reside today.
Position requires an enthusiastic person who can inspire people with the knowledge of how to accomplish their individual training goals in a fun dynamic atmosphere. We are looking for the forever humble student who is always willing to learn both independently and from challenging situations they encounter. They need to be able to integrate a passion for training dogs with a love for teaching people new things.
Associate's Degree or higher a plus
Exceptional verbal communication skills
CPDT-KA certification or qualified to sit for the exam also a plus
