Title: American Sign Language Interpreter (2024-2025 Academic Year)Hours: 7:15 am - 3:00 pm (M,T,TH,F); 9:15 am - 3:00 pm (W)Location: Junior High QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High school graduate or equivalent; 2. Licensure from Iowa Department of Professional Licensure, Board of Sign Language Interpreters & Transliterators; 3. Preference license by examination or completed interpreter training program; 4. Proficiency in English; 5. Knowledge and skill in Conceptually Accurate Signed English and American Sign Language REPORTS TO: Principal, Assistant Principal, or other designated staff BASIC FUNCTION: Primary responsibility includes interpreting for student(s) with hearing impairments as required in student’s Individualized Education Plans. Performance Responsibilities:

  • Interpret all information presented in learning situations in and outside of the classroom.

  • Interpret at school functions outside of the classroom during regularly scheduled work hours.

  • Confer, plan, and work collaboratively with classroom teachers, special education teachers, teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing and others in order insure assigned students receive appropriate services.

  • Maintain confidentiality by discussing assignments only with district and AEA staff who have a legitimate need to know.

  • Attend staffing’s, meetings, and IEP’s when appropriate.

  • Direct students to ask instruction related questions to the assigned teacher.

  • Seek professional development opportunities and maintain a continuing program of staff development.

  • Serve as a liaison to promote good public relations between students in the program, hearing peers, staff, and faculty members.

  • When not interpreting, accept other responsibilities and duties as assigned.This could include but is not limited to: assisting, tutoring, correcting papers, copying, adapting materials, etc.

  • Attend all in-service and staff meetings as directed.

  • Follow building associate work hours.

  • Report concerns to appropriate school personnel.

  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Bending, carrying, climbing, driving, lifting, pushing-pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, walking. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Continued employment subject to continued need of interpreter services. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the building principal according to the guidelines of the master contract.
