Cleveland Clinic Supervisor Admitting/ED Registration in Akron, Ohio

The Supervisor of Admitting/ED Registration is responsible for coordinating work activities of personnel engaged in admitting hospital and ED patients. In this role you will supervise the work activities and payroll of the Admitting/ED Registration Department to include the Registration Clerks and the Coordinator, Quality Registration.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Interviewing, hiring, and training staff.

  • Evaluating performance and providing feedback.

  • Determining appropriate staffing levels and preparing schedules and assignments for the department to maintain efficient operations.

  • Supervising activities related to the Point of Service collection process as it relates to ED, Admissions, and Pre-Registrations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides direction to the quality coordinator and staff of the off shifts as problems arise. Rotates on-call for weekends and off shifts.

  • Reviews productivity and quality review of registration data. Takes corrective action that includes providing additional training or disciplinary action when appropriate. Monitors Pre-Registration daily to make sure pre-registrations are at office standards. Monitors E-Signatures for accuracy or any concerns.

  • Performs rounding in Admitting, ED to listen and view staff interaction with patients, visitors and other employees to ensure compliance with customer service standards. Coaches staff as necessary and takes disciplinary action when necessary.

  • Provides monthly activity reports to director and senior administration as necessary.

  • Assists I/S to test new installations and create Project Requests as needed.

  • Assists with Nursing Informatics with issues with interface of HIS and McKesson.

  • Takes an active role on hospital committees related to areas of expertise, including but not limited to Performance Improvement committees, Physician Outreach committees and Revenue Cycle committees.

  • Resolves complaints and answers questions of customers regarding service or procedures.

  • Covers for Outpatient Supervisor in her absence.

  • Works with Operations Assistant to update and develop policies and procedures as needed.

  • Monitors monthly goals to assure they are being met and if any issues arise, provides strategy and action plan to Assistant Director and Director.

  • Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.

  • Develops collaborative working relationships with the medical staff, nursing staff and ancillary department staff including but not limited to Housekeeping and Transportation to ensure efficient and timely patient flow; with patient financial services to ensure accurate and timely billing; with Care Management to ensure appropriate concurrent review with payers and appropriate discharge planning.

  • Implements and trains staff based on established policies and procedures including, but not limited to JCAHO requirements, patients rights (especially related to Advance Directives and HIPAA), system functionality, admission and bed assignment rules, ED/EMTALA rules, and Medicare and other third party payor requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in business preferred.

Certifications:

  • None required

Complexity of Work:

  • Strong verbal communication skills.

Work Experience:

  • Three (3) to five (5) years previous health care experience. Two (2) years supervisory experience.
