Responsibilities*

  • Manage and expedite referrals for patients in a timely manner

  • Cover Patient Services positions as needed

  • Expected to cover front desk at minimum 2 times a week

  • Work with healthcare team to provide excellence in patient care

  • Manage work queues

  • Help patient with billing questions and concerns

  • Professional in all forms of communication

  • Oversee assigned MiChart inbaskets

  • High functioning scheduler has the ability to make complex scheduling decisions and coordinate across specialties and departments.

  • Obtains records as needed

  • Conduct insurance authorizations for visits and testing, medications, and DME

  • Respond to concerns, complaints, and questions for patients

  • Other job office functions

  • Participate in team meetings

Required Qualifications*

  • High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education

  • 3-4 years of experience.

  • 2 years work experience in an office setting.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology

  • Communicates effectively

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast pace, multi-disciplinary clinical setting

  • Demonstrated excellent attendance

Desired Qualifications*

  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.

  • One to three years? experience in a public contact setting.

  • Office experience desired, preferable in a medical setting.

  • Previous Cadence Experience

  • Previous Grid building and editing

  • Previous Referral knowledge

  • Previous Billing knowledge

Work Schedule

Monday- Friday with some evening shifts and rotating Saturdays

This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the Service Employees International Union - Healthcare Michigan (SEIU), which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
