YOUR NEW ROLE, WHATS INVOLVED?

Our Energy networks business, led by Mark, is home to over 200 talented people ranging from our early career professionals to established engineers and project managers working across the UK electricity market to help keep the lights on!

Working in partnership with TNO’s and DNO’s we plan, design, and deliver new customer connections as well as network reinforcements to ensure the infrastructure is ready for green investment and new technologies. Our bright sparks, spread across five key locations including Guildford, Stafford, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle (with ambitions to expand the presence in our Birmingham and Glasgow offices) are encouraged and supported to realise their potential with training courses, further education, and mentors for chartership.

We are particularly interested to hear from applicants with previous experience providing Project Management, Design or System Network Planning for UK Distribution and/or Transmission Companies.

This role includes:

  • Formation and management of project team and identification of additional support requirements beyond WSP Energy Networks.

  • Definition and agreement of project deliverables with client and project team.

  • Responsibility for contract delivery, including management of client and Stakeholders (external and internal)

  • Creation of project pan and resourced programme for delivery of services.

  • Control of time and resources against forecast. Monitoring, control, and reporting of progress against programme.

  • Cost forecasting and management of project spend.

  • Leading engineering design resources in development of project deliverables.

  • Support to the Bid team in the development of proposals and tender responses.

  • Management of risk, change, and quality in project delivery.

  • Management of consultancy services to clients through frameworks.

YOUR TEAM

WSP has a long track record supporting utilities, contracting organisations, developers, owners and government agencies around the globe on transmission and distribution projects throughout the lifecycle. We respond to clients’ needs by harnessing our knowledge, technical leadership and project management skills, serving in diverse roles including as technical advisors, owner’s engineers, development engineers and lender’s engineers to solve complex transmission and distribution problems and produce innovative, high-quality, cost-effective solutions.

We’ve worked on every major element of power transmission and distribution network systems, including overhead power lines and towers, transformers and reactive compensation equipment, substations and switchyards, underground and submarine (undersea) cables, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and extra high-voltage (EHV) networks, as well as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems and distribution management systems (DMS).

Energy Networks is an expanding team having recently gone through a reorganisation. We are dispersed across the UK and supported by WSP colleagues worldwide in the delivery of projects and services to clients.

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • Minimum of an HNC in a relevant engineering discipline.

  • Experience leading the delivery and project management of energy transmission and distribution projects.

  • Knowledge / prior experience of the UK regulated and non-regulated transmission and distribution sectors.

  • Professional project management qualifications e.g. through APM or PMI.

  • Experience in liaising directly with clients and in building client relationships.

  • Proficient in MS Office suite applications, including MS Project. Experience and competency in Primavera P6 would be an advantage.
