The Role: Senior Legal Counsel

The Team:

The Impact:

  • You will be a strategic legal point covering the legal affairs of the North America Automotive Insights business. You will be responding to internal client inquiries, providing valuable support in the handling of legal matters and in all aspects of the contract process, reviewing contracts, training the commercial organization on legal and contracting procedures, negotiating and drafting contracts for data and analytical products and services and assisting with special projects outside of routine client facing contracting as needed.

  • You will provide support to the U.S. Automotive Insights team. You will be handling licensing agreements and consultancy contracts, overseeing product and policy related initiatives, and offering legal guidance on various commercial legal matters and internal business processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing, negotiating, and drafting data rights for a variety of agreements, including but not limited to strategic agreements, customer agreements for data products, services, information and technology vendor agreements.

  • Interact and collaborate with internal team members and stakeholders on other legal matters including Information security, Privacy (GDPR, DPPA, CCPA), managing and protecting the Company’s intellectual property.

  • Support the Automotive Insights product team and other business teams as required and provide them with adequate and innovative business solutions.

  • Ensure that the Company’s intellectual property and general practices are protected, and liability and risk exposure are mitigated.

  • Identification, enforcement, and training on appropriate policies and procedures, including areas concerning privacy and other regulatory matters.

What We’re Looking For :

Basic Qualifications

  • Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 5+ years post-qualified experience.

  • Strong experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements in English, ideally licensing agreements, either in-house or private practice.

  • Enthusiastic, service-oriented, proactive, and dedicated to problem-solving, coupled with a curious nature, a pleasant demeanor, and outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Strong working knowledge of contract, commercial and intellectual property law. This includes protection of copyright and other proprietary rights, data privacy, warranties, indemnification, disclaimer of liability and, ideally, data licensing provisions.

  • Demonstrated capacity to thrive both independently and as a collaborative team member, even in high-pressure and demanding corporate settings.

  • Proficiency in establishing robust and productive working relationships with critical internal and external stakeholders from diverse functions and cultural backgrounds.

  • Self-assured and equipped to engage with individuals at all levels within the organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Law degree from a university or law school.

  • Excellent command of the English language (both written and spoken)

  • Excellent drafting and negotiating skills.

The Location: US-Detroit

Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $88,000.00-$156,000.00. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographical location as well as experience and qualifications for the role. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.
