This is a 40-hour per week position responsible for all aspects of the ongoing routine operation of the Spring Street Museum, a community cultural extension of Louisiana State University at Shreveport.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in History, Humanities, Museum Studies, Archaeology, or related field. Basic Microsoft Office skills and design software such as Canva are required. Must be familiar with posting on Facebook and Instagram.
Reports to: Executive Director of Museum Services
Position responsibilities:
Present at the museum during opening hours for tours and guests. Administer routine office matters, ordering of supplies, oversight of all general daily operational duties, including docent for interpretative information on the museum and its holdings.
Responsible for all aspects of maintaining the museum collection, including the use of Past Perfect software, cataloging, and inventory.
Responsible for the development of new exhibit displays based on themes decided upon in conjunction with the university; highlighting specific aspects of Shreveport and regional culture, with an emphasis on diversity. The coordinator will have creative input in designing exhibits, subject to the Executive Director's approval.
Responsible for working with LSUS interns, in conjunction with the Executive Director, and oversight of their progress as specified in the semester plan provided for each student. The final oversight for student interns rests with the museum director/faculty member.
Assisting with special events planning for various groups, including on-site lectures and community programs, as well as social events for the LSUS Foundation, including the Friends of the Spring Street Museum. Routine work hours can be flexible when there are special events.
Works with the university to ensure ongoing maintenance of the physical facility and oversight of housekeeping and facility services.
Maintains a social media presence for the museum by posting regularly on topics of broad community interest related to the museum holdings and its activities.
Meets with the Executive Director as needed. The coordinator will provide a monthly report to the Executive Director which is shared with LSUS Foundation for Friends of the Museum.
In conjunction with the Executive Director, is responsible for grant writing for topics/themes of interest to the local com. The coordinator will also liaise with the Director of the Pioneer Heritage Center to ensure collaborative programming, grant-writing, and alignment of mission.
Liaises with Academic Affairs to plan and provide workforce development opportunities for LSUS students through the Museum.
