Saltworks Technologies Manager of Commissioning Engineering in Richmond, British Columbia

The role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Manager of Commissioning Engineering to join our team. In this positon, you will lead a team of commissioning engineers and technologists, who work closely with cross-functional teams within Saltworks and our industry-leading clients to successfully drive projects to completion. Your responsibilities will include creating and overseeing project commissioning plans and resources, mentoring and training commissioning teams, collaborating with project stakeholders, and ensuring customer excellence.

This role has significant room for advancement. You will work closely with senior leaders at Saltworks who will support you. In turn, you will gain leadership skills by growing and developing your team.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of innovative clean technology solutions, leveraging your technical expertise and leadership skills. This includes:

  • Overseeing the entire commissioning project lifecycle while working closely with our Project Management Office (PMO) and engineering teams to commission systems/plants at our factory and customer sites.

  • Engaging in comprehensive commissioning planning, encompassing budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and procedure/standard development for factory and site commissioning.

  • Implementing standardized and efficient commissioning processes while enhancing our cutting-edge industrial desalination and resource recovery plants.

  • Represent Saltworks at customer job sites. Collaborate with your team to deliver high-quality system/plant commissioning and ensure a seamless handover to customers (international travel will be required).

  • Bring forward design feedback, driving continuous improvement and innovation within our engineering teams.

  • Become a subject matter expert, enabling you to keep and expand technical skills while also developing project management and people management skills.

You will be a great fit if you have:

  • A relevant engineering degree.

  • The ability to register as a P.Eng. with EGBC.

  • 7-15 years of relevant working experience as an engineer in an industrial setting, particularly in the backend of commissioning, turnover, project delivery, or handover.

  • Willingness to travel internationally without restrictions, as the role may require on-site commissioning support for projects located around the world.

  • A proven track record of delivering high-quality commissioning work in a fast-paced industrial environment.

  • Proficiency and hands-on experience in hydrostatic testing, mechanical and electrical commissioning, process control commissioning, and field commissioning.

  • Familiarity with industrial safety standards for mechanically and electrically energized systems.

  • Experience in collaborating with multiple stakeholders to ensure our practices are compliant with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.

  • Exceptional critical thinking skills, adept in risk management, and an excellent troubleshooting mindset.

  • Successful managerial experience in developing, growing, and managing the team.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and maintain a high quality of work and quickly learn new skills.

  • Impeccable attention to detail and a sense of urgency in completing projects on time.

  • Ability to work well in a team-focused environment with diverse team members.

  • Strong commitment to delivering high-quality work, while meeting deadlines.

  • Strong leadership capabilities, complemented by outstanding communication skills.

  • Positive attitude, can-do approach, and willingness to roll up your sleeves and pitch in as required.

  • Hands-on tooling and troubleshooting skills (not essential, yet beneficial if you like this type of work).

  • Bonus: experience leading a technical commissioning team at a factory or job site.
