Job Summary:

We are seeking a confident, proactive, Senior Backend .Net Developer who can prioritize their work and has good communication skills, to be the Senior Developer responsible for integrating Cat Wear features into our Cat Inspect application. They must be able to dig into an existing application (CWMS) and, with support from the architect, quickly understand the code base and how the product works.

The project you will be working on is the creation of a new Cat Inspect product from the merger of Cat Inspect, Cat Wear (CWMS), and Cat Used applications. Working closely with the technical architects, you will be expected to become the technical expert on migrating and rewriting services from Cat Wear (CWMS) and their integration into the new product architecture. This product is strategically important to Cat Digital and will support sales of over $1B per year.

What You Do:

The technology stack for the existing product includes services written in C# utilizing .Net Framework and hosted in AWS , with services communicating via Elastic Beanstalk. The technology stack for the new product will include services written in C# utilizing .Net 8 , hosted in Azure , with services communicating via Service Fabric and using NoSQL database technology. You will be responsible for:

  • Designing, modifying, developing, writing and implementing backend .Net software programming applications for target system using agile methodology, based on Scrum but closer to a ‘Srumban’ approach.

  • Acquiring client requirements; resolving workflow problems through automation optimization.

  • Contributing to the backlog refinement and creation of user stories.

  • Writing source code for new applications, and/or generating and enhancing code samples from existing applications.

  • Utilizing automated testing tools to perform testing and maintenance.

  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to more junior engineers in the team.

What You Will Have:

  • Software Development: Extensive knowledge in .Net and C# to perform backend software development by adopting industry’s best architecture patterns, security best practices; ability to produce software products or systems in line with product requirements.

  • Software Development Life Cycle: Extensive knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology (experience in agile methodology preferred) for managing and delivering new or enhanced software products to the marketplace

  • Software Integration Engineering : Working knowledge of software integration processes and functions; ability to design, develop and maintain interfaces and linkage to external platforms and software packages.

  • Software Product Design/Architecture: Extensive knowledge of software product architecture and design; ability to convert market requirements into the software product design.

Considerations for Top Candidates:

  • Highly advanced experience developing distributed , service oriented products (typically 5+ years).

  • Extensive experience developing applications deployed and hosted in the Cloud (preferably Cloud Native applications) (typically 5+ years).

  • In depth experience developing applications using C# (typically 3-5+ years).

  • Extensive experience developing applications in .Net ( .Net 8 is ideal, but any .Net6+ and exposure to .Net Framework) (typically 3-5+ years).

  • Proficient experience developing applications hosted on Azure or AWS (preferably Azure) (typically 3-5+ years).

  • Working experience with relational databases (typically 3-5+ years).

  • Experience with NoSQL databases (typically 2+ years).

  • Agile development methodologies, preferably Scrum.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with Service Fabric.

  • ETL experience and/or experience with data migration between two applications.

  • Experience with Apigee.

  • Familiarity with Cat Wear (CWMS), Cat Inspect, or other Cat inspection applications.

Attitude, communication and overall capability is more important than specific skills and experience, so an exact match to the technical experience listed is not required, however as this is a Senior Software Engineer position, the successful candidate must have good experience with at least some of the technology stack and be capable of writing and maintaining well designed, high quality, testable code from requirements.

Additional Details:

This position has the option to be based out of either our Chicago, IL or Peoria, IL offices with a flexible hybrid office environment.
