SURGICAL TECH – SURGERY

The Surgical Tech will assist in the care and preparation of the surgical patient in accordance with individual needs physician orders hospital policy and standards of patient care. The Surgical Tech must be able to scrub all cases.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies and prepares appropriate instrumentation, supplies and equipment based on identified surgical procedures and respects time out and sponge accounting standards.

  • Maintains and monitors aseptic technique.

  • Assists the surgical team during operating procedures as appropriate.

  • Maintains and cares for equipment and supplies. Documents maintenance and repairs.

  • Provides comfort and support for operative patients. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient's care and privacy.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of organizational structure and utilizes appropriate channels of communication. Understands and participates actively in time out procedures at the direction of the registered nurse.

  • Demonstrates a positive cooperative manner when dealing with all members of the health care team, is directly responsive to the oversight of patient care provided by the registered nurse in conjunction with the surgeon and anesthesiologist.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the approaches to and methods of Continuous Quality Improvement.

  • Attendance for all mandatory training met per department guidelines for established deadlines.

  • May be required to respond to on-call for department needs, being readily available for urgent and emergent on-call cases per department need and schedule.

  • Serves as a preceptor and role model in area(s) of expertise for new Surgical Technicians and/or other department employees and/or students.

  • Collaborates with unit management and other licensed staff to identify own career and educational needs.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

  • Minimum (1) year of operating room experience in an acute care setting required.

  • At least one (1) year in an area of specialty required. Must be able to scrub Neuro, Vascular, Spine cases.

  • Open Heart procedures preferred

  • Successful completion of an accredited/approved Surgical Technician program and/or equivalent combination of education/experience required.

  • Current AHA BLS card required.

  • Current Fire Safety card required.

This position is represented by SEIU UHW and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement

Pay Range

$29.42 - $36.78 /hour
