The Director of Account Management for UMR is responsible for supervising the Account Management staff who are tasked with customer retention within the 100-5,000 self-funded segment. We are looking for a solid, strategic leader who has experience dealing with C suite level customers, has a solid vision for his/her team and can successfully execute on that vision.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Management Responsibilities:

  • Manage and monitor client assignments as well as train the account management staff, new hires and ongoing

  • Set team strategy to achieve and surpass goals, and consistently develop and manage a team of Strategic Account Executives and Field Account Managers

  • Relationship Building:

  • Build and maintain key client and producer relationships

  • Develop and maintain key internal relationships

  • Present a positive image of UnitedHealth Care and UMR to the marketplace

  • Product Knowledge:

  • Detailed understanding of UMR products, services and solutions

  • Working knowledge of Enterprise/ancillary product lines

  • Ability to identify and communicate the need for improvements in UMR products and services

  • Healthcare Knowledge:

  • Understands and can communicate goals, operating principles, strategies and competitive position of UnitedHealthcare and UMR

  • In-depth healthcare knowledge, understands important trends

  • Demonstrates knowledge of competitor's strengths, weaknesses and strategies

  • Financial and Underwriting:

  • Understands financing methodologies and strategies for self-funded customers

  • Thorough knowledge of underwriting principles and practices for self-funded customers

  • Possesses basic math skills

  • Can explain and justify a renewal rate to customers

  • Customer Focus:

  • Consistently models a customer-focused approach

  • Effectively manages difficult service situations to a positive result

  • Anticipates problems and develops contingency plans

  • Ability to deal with sophisticated customers and brokers/consultants

  • Ability to customize existing marketing tools to meet the individual needs of a client

  • Ability to oversee successful implementation of client accounts

Required Qualifications:

  • Sales Insurance License Maintained by Law

  • 5+ years of experience working with brokers/consultants

  • 5+ years of experience meeting sales and/or persistency goals

  • 3+ years people management experience

  • 3+ years proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel

  • Must maintain valid Drivers License

  • Willingness to travel as required

Preferred Qualification :

  • Sales and/or Acct Mgt experience working with complex, self-funded customers
