Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position spends more than 50% of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities including communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees and planning and directing employees’ work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations; meet with staff regularly to discuss performance; complete performance reviews; maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage; and complete timesheets.

This position is a supervisory level position reporting directly to the PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITION PROGRAM DIRECTOR, Position# 64084446. Serving as Manager of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program at the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) in Volusia County located in the Daytona Beach, Keech location and other East Volusia County WIC locations. This individual is responsible for the supervision of staff including appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, having the authority for hiring, and taking disciplinary action or effectively reccomending such actions. Assists in developing, updating, implementing and monitoring the policies and procedure of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC Program) for the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County ensuring compliance with Federal regulations, state and local policies and procedures as described within the WIC Procedure Manual DHM 150-24, WIC Data System User Guide, WIC Data System Manager Guide, WIC CPA (Competent Professional Authority) Guidebook, Formula Reference Guide and Formulary.

This is specialized work under the direction of the Nutrition Program Director in a WIC unit. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations and provisions of nutrition services of Florida Department of Health (FDOH) in Volusia County located in the Daytona Beach, Keech location and other East Volusia County WIC locations. It requires a high degree of accuracy, involves close interaction with other personnel of the county health department, and maintenance of confidentiality. Responsible for the supervision of staff Including appraisals, planning, and directing their work, approving leave, having the authority for hiring, and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions. Travel to all sites may be involved in the performance of duties. This position may serve clients that speak only Spanish, Creole, or other languages. Performs other duties as required.

SUPERVISION: Oversees the Daytona Beach Keech Street WIC site operation and other eastside Volusia County WIC operations. Supervises and supports clinic staff. Supervises direct reports including motivating, training, providing guidance, and direction. Develops expectations and meets with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, and discipline action, if needed. Maintains vacation and work schedules to ensure proper coverage and completes timesheets. Ensures all staff complete required training and are offered additional training.

NUTRITION RISK DETERMINATION AND DOCUMENTATION: Determines nutrition risk eligibility of clients in accordance with DHM 150-24. Documents services provided in accordance with State WIC Office documentation guidelines. Correctly identifies all high-risk clients, completing an individual high-risk care plan using the SOAP format.

NUTRITION EDUCATION: Provides individual nutrition education contacts, adapts nutrition education content based on need of the client using the VENA concept to provide appropriate nutritional counseling

NUTRITION SERVICES AND REFERRAL DOCUMENTATION: Documents services provided in accordance with State WIC Office documentation guidelines. As necessary, refers client to appropriate outside agency, documenting referral. Accurately completes FL-WiSE System data entry ensuring to complete all required screens before the end of the day services are provided.

BREASTFEEDING: Protects, promotes and supports breastfeeding; assures local site reflects a Breastfeeding Friendly atmosphere. Assists with organization and maintenance of breastfeeding supplies for site and issues manual breast pumps per Agency guidelines. Promotes breastfeeding classes with all prenatal clients. Refers clients to Breastfeeding staff as needed.

ADMINISTRATIVE: Completes assigned administrative projects and reports in a timely fashion. Participates in Quality Assurance activities

This position has the responsibility of being the Information Custodian for Daytona Beach Keech Street WIC site operation and other eastside Volusia County WIC operations and will perform related duties as defined in DOHP 50-10.

This position has the responsibility of being the Key Custodian for WIC secure area(s) at the Daytona Beach Keech Street WIC site operation and other eastside Volusia County WIC operations and will perform related duties as defined in DOHP 50-10.

OTHER: Participates in on-going nutrition education activities with local agency. Provides nutrition education and general services at Outreach events.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to effectively direct WIC office operations

Ability to supervise and direct employees

Knowledge of the science and current practice of nutrition or dietetics.

Ability to lead, mentor and develop staff

Qualifications:

Minimum -

Must be licensed Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and/or licensed as a Dietician/Nutritionist (LD/N) in the State of Florida

Must be willing and able to travel to outlying clinic or community sites in Volusia County utilizing your own vehicle if needed (mileage will be provided in accordance with agency policy)

Must be a current Florida Department of Health employee, in a Selected Exempt Service (SES), Career Service (CS), or Other Personal Services (OPS) position

Preferred -

Minimum of two years of supervisory experience in WIC program

Master’s Degree in Dietetics, Public Health, or related field
