TEKsystems Inpatient Coder (REMOTE) in Dallas, Texas

Description:

Inpatient Medical coder will Review inpatient medical records and assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes. This process ensures accurate reimbursement from insurance companies and government healthcare programs.

Applies ICD-10/CM/PCS and CPT-4 codes to medical records based on documentation provided by physicians. Adheres to strict federal coding rules in selecting codes that appropriately reflect the condition, which the patient had, and the care that was provided. Abstracts clinical and statistical information for outcome measure and monitoring. Serves as a lead role by assisting other areas in the hospital in the review, corrections, and rebills of coded accounts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in inpatient (Hospital) medical coding.

  • Candidates with Ambulatory or outpatient experience is also a plus

  • Proficiency in assigning ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient diagnoses and procedures.

  • Familiarity with CPT codes.

  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, disease processes, and pharmacology.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze inpatient medical records to ensure accurate coding.

  • Assign appropriate codes for diagnoses, procedures, and treatments.

  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation when necessary.

  • Maintain compliance with federal coding rules and guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification

  • Excellent observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.

Education:

  • Prefer candidates with relevant degrees such as an Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Nursing, Health Information Management, or a related field.

  • Certifications: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).

Work Environment:

  • This position is a 3 month contract with opportunity to be contract to hire for candidates that sit within a providence approved state.

  • Work schedule is flexible, candidate may need to work in the time zone of their leader during the initial start up period (3 weeks).

  • Candidates must have their own equipment.
