Savage is looking for an Assistant Operations Manager for our operation in Columbus, OH. The Assistant Operations Manager will be responsible for assisting with the leadership of a specialized team in planning, organizing, managing and hands-on work with the day-to-day operations of a Transload Facility; ensuring all work is performed in a safe and efficient manner.     Responsibilities / Job Duties:

  • Support the Operations Manager with day-to-day responsibilities

  • A positive leader with the ability to be proactive in problem solving, making decisions, organizing and directing people, and utilizing coaching techniques for improving behaviors

  • Provide "Worry-free Service” to each customer every day

  • Learn, implement, teach, and execute the S7 Operating System

  • Ability to build strong relationships with customer contacts

    Requirements/Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of transloading and rail yard operations is a must

  • Hands on, hard-working, self-starter

  • Ability to hire and train Team Members

  • Must have leadership skills to ensure Team Members follow procedures at all times

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Ability to work with and perform basic computer operations (spreadsheet, word processor, and email operations), and general office organization

  • Good written and oral skills with an ability to communicate with co-workers, customers, and other company personnel

  • Dynamic personality to put safety first and lead Team Members

  • Hands-on experience with transloading and rail movements

  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal requirements

  • Desire and willingness to learn

    Education/Experience

  • 2+ years rail yard management experience required

  • 2+ years experience with transloading

  • College degree preferred

    Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write & speak English

  • This position is required to work outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions

  • Must be able to work outdoors in various climates for up to 12 hours

  • Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis

  • Must be able to climb steps and ladders

  • Must have the ability to work, walk, and stand on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time

  • Position may require some travel for training purpose
