Job Title : Manager - IT Systems

Location : Onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA (2110 Wiley Blvd SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404)

*Preference will be given to local candidates, but we are open to those willing to relocate.

Job Schedule : Monday-Friday (8:00 AM-5:00 PM)

Compensation : Base Salary + Annual Incentive Plan

Job Summary : The Manager - IT Systems (MITS) will have an in-depth understanding of the technology landscape, including hosting, network, systems, storage, and others, gained through progressive experience in building and managing system hardware, virtual systems, software, and databases. This leadership role oversees the use of technology that serves the business needs. The primary role of the MITS is to design, manage, and monitor information systems, overseeing a team of server administrators, server engineers, and database administrators responsible for installing and maintaining hardware and software upgrades.

Day in the Job Preview : As the Manager - IT Systems, you will lead a team responsible for designing, managing, and optimizing CRST's technology infrastructure. Your day-to-day involves overseeing hardware and software upgrades, ensuring system security, and collaborating with various IT departments to support business operations and drive innovation.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities :

  • Designs, implements, integrates, and provides full support for hardware in a multi-tiered, multi-platform environment.

  • Ensures implementation and maintenance activities, including patching for computer systems hardware and configurations.

  • Owns close management of incidents, problem tickets, and change controls in a complex/distributed data center environment to reduce risk and implement safe times for repair and change.

  • Responsible for asset tagging and Data Center inventory management.

  • Oversees the integration of new technologies into the company's environment.

  • Partners with Project Managers on the delivery of projects by ensuring necessary resources and information are provided to plan and execute successfully.

  • Manages a small team responsible for hardware installation, configuration, and optimization.

  • Assesses hardware/software systems, applications, and processes to influence a larger information systems (IS) strategy.

  • Coordinates with other IT departments as an IT Operations Manager to ensure that IT Services meet or exceed Users'/Business expectations.

  • Creates reports/metrics on various systems/hardware performance measures to identify opportunities for improvements/proactive actions.

  • Leads the team of direct reports through coaching, leadership, and training to manage staff performance.

  • Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and performance management.

  • Leads/participates in planning and designing technologies to meet the growing needs of the business.

  • Manages IT Systems projects from requirements analysis, through solution design, implementation, documentation, testing, and support.

  • Collaborates with the IT Security Office/Security Team on the information security program and expeditiously addresses any IT systems vulnerabilities and gaps, including systems patching.

  • Safeguards assets by planning, implementing, and documenting backup procedures, disaster recovery, and information security controls.

  • Performs infrastructure tests and audits to verify capabilities and comply with standards.

  • Assists with detailed and accurate IT Systems inventory, including software licenses, warranty information, and support contracts.

  • Contributes to the change management process by guiding the IT Systems team in planning and implementing system configuration changes.

  • Provides input to the annual operating and capital expenditure budget to ensure IT Systems costs are identified to meet the overall strategic objectives of IT and the enterprise are represented.

Job Requirements :

  • Successful completion of a CRST background check and drug screen is required.

  • High school diploma or GED is required.

  • 10+ years of progressive hands-on technical experience responsible for designing, implementing, and managing physical and virtual systems, storage, and backup solutions, as well as data center management in Windows/AD/Azure and Linux environments.

  • 7+ years leading a team of direct reports responsible for IT Systems and Database Servers.

  • Basic to mid-level database systems management experience, including SQL and PostgreSQL.

  • Data Center/Hardware migration and installation requirements.

  • Industry Data Center standards knowledge.

  • Networking and Connectivity standards familiarity.

  • Systems Performance Management and Critical Awareness Methods.

  • Experience with vendor management, technology procurement, and IT asset management.

  • Effective project management experience and resource planning for technical projects.

  • Advanced communication and organizational skills with a proven ability to successfully manage multiple deadlines.

Ideal Experience & Skillset :

  • Experience working in a complex infrastructure environment focused on scalable, multi-site, diverse technologies; DR/continuous availability of services is preferred.

  • Cabling best practices knowledge, including structured cabling systems.

  • Creation and implementation of policies and procedures.
