Description

We are offering an opportunity for a Sr. Accountant in the construction industry, located in Grand Rapids SE, Michigan, United States. The role involves managing a variety of accounting tasks, assisting the Controller with financial statement preparation, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, analysis, and more. Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with GAAP, implementing effective internal controls and documenting all accounting policies and procedures for areas of responsibility

• Manage cash flow and lead the accounts payable cycle, ensuring all accounts are paid timely and all reasonable discounts are taken

• Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants for the Line of Credit and Mortgage

• Manage outsourced functions such as employee issued debit and credit cards, insurance billings, banking ACH and wire transactions

• Ensure all GL accounts are reconciled and manage fixed assets and depreciation schedules

• Manage vehicle fleet, including leasing agreements, licensing, registration, insurance, etc.

• Participate in and manage the collection and coordination of WIP reporting efforts

• Manage inventory and reconciliation process

• Assist with timely, accurate and complete monthly financial statements and other metrics

• Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management

• Assist with managing all insurance policy renewals and with coordination of and preparation of annual report, tax returns, budgets and forecasts

• Maintain and refine management cost reports, established rates, overhead, etc.

• Participate in the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit and any other financial audit such as Workers Compensation, etc.

• Research compliance matters that effect other key processes, such as prevailing wage laws, lien laws and laws governing contractor licensing, making recommendations to management.

Requirements

• Minimum of three years' experience in a General Accountant role or similar position

• Job costing experience

• Proficiency in creating Cash Flow Forecasts and Month End Close reports

• Strong understanding and application of GAAP Accounting principles

• Experience in calculating Fixed Asset Depreciation

• Proven ability to Prepare Annual Budgets

• Proficient in performing Ad Hoc Financial Analysis

• Skilled in Bank Account Reconciliation

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

• Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and other accounting software

• Attention to detail and accuracy in all work

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Must be able to handle confidential information with discretion

• Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines

• Professional certification such as CPA is preferred.
