Job Summary

The Outreach Program Manager provides strategic direction and oversight of career outreach and programming for all non-academic departments at CU Boulder and supervises a team of student employees in Career Services.

This position has three primary areas of focus, each rooted in diversity, equity, and inclusion. The first area is to oversee Career Services' outreach strategy with a strong emphasis on the creation, maintenance, and inclusivity of online career education content and programming. This involves actively working to make resources accessible and relevant to students from a diverse set of backgrounds, including those historically underrepresented in career development initiatives.

The second primary focus is to cultivate strategic partnerships with non-academic units across the CU Boulder campus, promoting collaboration that fosters an inclusive environment for career development. These partnerships should prioritize the needs and experiences of all students, particularly those facing systemic barriers to accessing career opportunities. By embedding career development throughout the student experience, we aim to create an environment where every student feels supported and empowered to pursue their professional goals.

Supervising a hard-working student team is the third area of focus, with a specific emphasis on fostering inclusivity and engagement in career education and peer support initiatives for undergraduate students. This involves providing mentoring and leadership that ensures the team reflects the diverse perspectives and experiences of the student body, and that their efforts are inclusive and welcoming to all students.

In addition to these primary responsibilities, this position also entails providing individualized career advising to undergraduate and graduate students.

This position is a part of the Embedded Career Team in Career Services. The goal of the Embedded Career Team is to build strategic connections and relationships with key collaborators that include students, faculty, academic advisors and coaches, and staff both within each college or school and with non-academic partners. Career Services, a department within the Division of Student Affairs, is the central hub for career initiatives at CU Boulder. Career Services partners with key stakeholders across campus to ensure that students and alumni have the opportunity to develop foundational skills, gain professional tools, and solidify their career choices. From staff development on topics of cultural humility, to programming that highlights diversity and inclusion in the world of work, our goal is to provide inclusive excellence for all students and alumni.

Career Services Key Initiatives include: Tailor and optimize career planning, programs, and resources for all colleges, schools, and programs on campus to ensure their diverse needs are met. Build and implement tools, technology, resources and communities of practice that support career work for all students and alumni. Connect students with employers with a focus on responsive & cutting-edge services for external partners and coordinate events that are relevant for students and alum. Connect students and alumni with opportunities to develop their skills, experience, and confidence through a variety of professional experiences.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Outreach Program Management:

  • Build strategic relationships with assigned campus partners and share information about Career Services events, resources, and offerings, ensuring the messaging is inclusive and accessible to all students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.

  • Manage Career Services staff relationships with relevant partners and track engagement between department and campus partners. With an emphasis on equity and inclusion, establish minimum expectations for partnerships, research and share standard methodologies with staff, and provide staff support when needed.

  • Be responsible for managing the online career education web content and CU Boulder Today articles, incorporating principles of inclusivity and access, integrating promising practices, and including student feedback to enhance relevance and effectiveness.

  • Develop and curate career and professional development content for engaging presentations, ensuring that materials are inclusive and reflective of diverse perspectives, and facilitate training sessions through in-person and virtual settings.

  • Participate in the online career education working group with a focus on implementing a communication strategy that reaches all corners of campus.

  • Implement non-academic outreach program assessment measures and reporting for program impact in consultation with Career Services leadership and in alignment with departmental assessment plans.

Student Supervision:

  • Recruit and hire a diverse team of student employees, actively seeking to attract candidates from underrepresented backgrounds and providing support and resources to ensure their success.

  • Provide comprehensive onboarding and ongoing professional development opportunities.

  • Initiate new training topics and initiatives aimed at enhancing the diversity, equity, and inclusion competencies of student employees, ensuring they are equipped to support a diverse student body effectively.

  • Coordinate with Career Services' staff to assign student employees to facilitate workshops and presentations on career education topics.

  • Partner with other supervisors of student employees on topics such as training, onboarding, and professional and skill development to ensure a positive and consistent student-employee experience.

  • Actively mentor and supervise student employees, providing guidance and support to help them navigate challenges and enhance their potential while fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment for all team members.

Career Development Advising:

  • Provide career advising for students and/or alumni in a combination of scheduled appointments, drop-in sessions, document reviews, email correspondence, and follow-up tasks.

  • Maintain contact logs and notes from career advising appointments.

  • Develop professional skills and knowledge, and stay up to date with relevant literature, trends, and best practices. Participate in local and national professional development.

  • Write and edit career development content for the website, CU Boulder Today articles, resources, and tools.

Additional Duties:

  • Participate with Career Services staff on various special events and programming.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $67,000 per year. Onboarding assistance is available within division guidelines.

What We Require

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

  • 5+ years of professional, job-related experience.
