Amazon Business Intelligence Engineer, ACES QuBIT ORBIT Team in Arlington, Virginia

ACES (Amazon Customer Excellence Systems) is seeking a highly talented and motivated Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) to join the Quantitative Business Intelligence Tools (QuBIT) team. Our mission is to develop, deploy, and sustain scalable mechanisms to drive Global Customer Fulfillment products ideation, development, deployment, and reporting. You will deliver results based on analyzing, evaluating and surfacing opportunities with your cross-disciplined team to senior leadership globally.

As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will generate insights that will guide feedback to operators and business strategy decisions. Data analysis is at the core Amazon’s culture, and your work will have a direct impact on decision-making and strategy for our organization. You will be gathering operational insights, running statistical analysis, mining data, making recommendations, visualizing data, and helping senior leaders make key business decisions.

You should be enthusiastic about leveraging data to uncover insights and solve business problems for ACES stakeholders, by producing end-to-end business intelligence solutions. Such solutions require data querying, data pipelining, and data visualization/dashboard building. You should also be enthusiastic about building deep domain knowledge about Amazon’s business and the fulfillment space. This role requires an individual with excellent analytical abilities as well as outstanding business acumen and comfort with technical teams and systems. The successful candidate will be a self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, with strong attention to detail, and enjoys working with large datasets.

Key job responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scaled, automated, user-friendly systems, statistical analysis and prediction, reports, dashboards, etc. that will support the needs of the business

• Apply deep analytic and business intelligence skills to extract meaningful insights and learning from large and complicated data sets

• Be hands-on with ETL to build data pipelines to support automated reporting

• Serve as liaison between the business and technical teams to achieve the goal of providing actionable insights into current business performance, and ad hoc investigations to support future improvements or innovations. This will require data gathering and manipulation, problem solving, and communication of insights and recommendations

• Build various data visualizations to tell the story of business trends, patterns, and outliers through rich visualizations

• Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation

Amazon's Quantitative Business Intelligence Tools (QuBIT) Team owns a myriad of reporting-focused software products and services, acting as the centralized business intelligence team for Amazon's Customer Excellence Systems (ACES) organization. Basic Qualifications

  • 1+ years of data engineering experience

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience with one or more query language (e.g., SQL, PL/SQL, DDL, MDX, HiveQL, SparkSQL, Scala)

  • Experience with one or more scripting language (e.g., Python, KornShell)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with big data technologies such as: Hadoop, Hive, Spark, EMR

  • Experience with any ETL tool like, Informatica, ODI, SSIS, BODI, Datastage, etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $81,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
